How Sewer Camera Inspections Work: Scope and Follow-Up
A sewer camera inspection gives you a view inside accessible portions of a property’s wastewater line. It can help identify visible concerns and decide whether plumbing follow-up is needed. It does not certify that every pipe is sound or guarantee that a future blockage will not occur.
What is being inspected?
Confirm the route and access point with the inspector before the appointment. A lateral-line inspection is different from inspecting every indoor drain, evaluating an entire septic system or clearing a blockage. The Realm sewer scope service page explains the service and how to request it.
Understand the limits of the view
Camera observations depend on access and conditions inside the pipe. An obstruction or limited visibility may leave part of the route unevaluated. A video is not a test of every joint for leakage, a prediction of service life or a repair-cost estimate. InterNACHI’s sewer scope standards provide general background on the scope and limits of this type of inspection; your agreed service scope governs the appointment.
Questions to ask about your results
- Which portions of the intended route were inspected?
- Was any portion inaccessible or obscured, and why?
- What visible concern was observed, and what follow-up is recommended?
- Would a plumbing professional need additional testing to determine the cause or repair?
- If work is performed, what documentation or further inspection would help confirm its completion?
Use the findings to plan the next conversation, rather than treating the report as a promise of savings, insurance coverage or increased property value. Read our sewer-line insurance questions if coverage is part of your decision.
Preparing for an appointment
Provide the address, known sewer or septic connection, access information and any purchase deadline. Explain any symptoms or prior plumbing work when requesting the service. For a property still being built, use the new-construction sewer scope planning checklist.
Contact Realm to confirm scope and scheduling. Keep access arrangements and any separately quoted services clear before the visit.
